ACCENTS REVIEWS "...But
yesterdays actor, Glen McCready, can read IPA! Its still
tedious work, reading out one transcribed word after another, but at
least he gets them right (except for occasional slips, which can happen
to anyone). We sailed through the lists, and managed to record 4,000
individual words in the course of the day (whereas the previous day,
with a less competent reader, we did only 2,500)...." John

MORTEM Elton presents a strong fictional portrait of how much the same--and different--life is for people who were mercilessly bullied as children. At the center of the story is Detective Ed Newson, who goes to his seventeenth-year class reunion. Almost every character is enhanced by narrator Glen McCready as the story moves from one emotional situation to the next. The production feels like the listener is hearing an expertly acted play. A highlight is a sex scene that is hilarious, perhaps funnier to hear than to see. As the body count increases, Detective Newson's challenges mount, but he remains humane and focused. This contemporary mystery is a bittersweet story that offers outstanding writing and narration. S.G.B. Winner of AudioFile Earphones Award © AudioFile 2006, Portland, Maine [Published: JUN/ JUL 06]

THE
MYSTERIES OF GLASS A young curate arrives at his first post with honest views about his religion and the goodness of people. Glen McCready makes the listener feel that the fictional character of Richard Allen is McCready himself. Allen falls in love with the wife of the vicar of the parish, and, through the ensuing travails caused by that love, we stand in the young man's court and are swayed to his side by the sympathy and passion that the narrator expends. Even the descriptions of the weather and countryside of Hereford, as well as the aura of the nineteenth century, are made picturesque by McCready's reading.
